It’s all very Earth

Hey there,

It’s all very earth.  Anyone else feeling all this Capricorn energy we’ve got surrounding us?

We’ve got six planets in Capricorn today, including the New Moon.  Very earth.  That’s right, we’ve got the Sun (your ego), Moon (your feelings/emotions), Saturn (maturity), Venus (love/beauty), Mercury (communication) and Pluto (subconscious).  What does that mean?

Well Capricorn is an earth sign (you’ve probably already got that), so that means practical, grounded (hello, the very earth), a worker.  This is the sign that follows the rules and makes sure there are lists with checkmarks and the i’s are dotted and the t’s crossed.  No nonsense, get ‘er done.  So take the meaning of Capricorn, and apply it to the other planets above, combined with what they signify.  This is a day of working to get things finished and off the list.  Down. To. Earth.  No lollygagging!  As my Nanny (my Grandmother) would have said.  Just do it.

Fine, so here I am.  No unfinished business.  Heaven forbid (pun intended) that I mess with the night sky.

Plus it’s Tuesday, and Tuesday is ruled by Mars – God of War.  Sit thee down and write.  Got it.  Check.

Sitting here in the Meadowview, looking out over the meadow.  Firmly grounded – because I am an earth sign too…  Snow is falling (STILL) and my Animal Totem just flew by.  Message received, already.  Woo woo is on full speed and spidey senses tingling.

I feel like I’m on the brink of something new.  Don’t know what it is yet, but something, hmmm.  Not sure if I should be afraid or not.  Seriously, what else could happen.  The New Moon, when she is dark – the first phase.  The Sun and Moon are conjunct, or together in the sky – so no reflection.  See how that works?  Time to start something new as she waxes and moves away from the Sun to start her new cycle.  New cycle of what though…perhaps I should be afraid.

Life certainly hasn’t been boring these last few years for me – maybe something great is coming.  Stay tuned!

In the meantime:

Me of the kittens and flowers way of thinking.  Be brave, soldier on.

Lots and lots of thinking and not getting things done.  Hmmm I am in need of the Capricorn influence.  I am so earth, I wouldn’t think I could get any more…  Feeling somewhat trapped – that could be the weather.  You know how I love a good January…almost as much as February – we still have that to look forward to.  Immerse yourself in books (with tea – or wine) – and chocolate – whatever gets you through.  Looking back through photos of the summer garden, that’s always a good temporary fix too – just look at that earth!  Last night’s dinner contained “weeds” from the freezer. 🙂  Lamb’s Quarters and Amaranth – lots of minerals…from the earth.  There’s a theme here – got that?

We are having a “real” winter here in Southern Ontario this year.  None of this couple of days of cold and then back to the melt like we’ve had for the past few.  Nope.  Full on.  Even the milder days weren’t that mild.  Reality bites.  So does that cold.  Tongue stuck on the flagpole kind of cold.

Pearl, my VW Bug rag top, sits shivering in the driveway in her ugly winter boots.  Such a fashionista and hates the winter look – covered in snow and no shiny hubcaps.  But she’s a trooper.  Starts up even in -30 C weather.  Never lets me down.  Shake your head if you will all you farmers up here in your big trucks…she’s the bomb in the snow.  Still plays the tunes – even with the top up (hers, not mine).

Why does the Sun always choose the end of the day to come out?  Like this last hurrah before it sets (see above).  Look at me!  I’m so bright and handsome – I can make or break your day…sorry, just an observation.  He does create some pretty shadows, but it would be nice to enjoy during the day, when I’m out shovelling…just sayin’.

Got my cranky on.  The snow plow took out the mailbox again and left it, headless, post chopped in half, lying for dead in the driveway. GRRRRRR Call to the Township – Fix. It. Please.  Township guy comes out with Scotch Tape.  Well, that should do it – until the next time anyway…NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN.

Ok, meandering here, I know.  Let’s talk about something else.

Any early signs of Spring in your neck of the woods?  I’ll take anything.

Well, here, the Starlings are coming back.  Even though they are a nuisance; still a sign of Spring.  The Goldfinches are starting to get their gold colour back – and that is awesome.  I so miss the birdsong in the morning – and having coffee out on the deck under the big maple, watching the birds to start my day.  Sigh Right now I’ll take the screech of the Blue Jays, lots of them here and the Cardinals – so pretty, flitting around in the snow.

Today’s colour:  maroon – like red wine, or an earth red on this very earth day.  Red wine is never a bad thing – it’s medicinal, you know. 🙂

Hunker down, read your books (maybe with that wine), muddle through – my Winter mantra.  I haven’t had to use snow shoes to fill my feeders as yet this Winter, so that’s good.  The annual face plant in the snow.  Always fun – much cursing.  Of course the tree rats do a pretty good job of beating a path to the feeders for me…

I can still get back to the barn to look mournfully at my empty apple bin gardens.  Nothing to see there.  But I know that the garlic is tucked in, sleeping, waiting – just like me – for the Sun to return to warm the earth and start the growing cycle all over again.

Breathe and enjoy the rest.

Until next time,

Game On

Hey there,

Quick!  Look up in the sky…it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…a TREE RAT.  They’re baaack.  Up there, in the tree tops, laughing, waiting.  Game on.

“Ooooo, here she comes, she’s got the bird seed…yay! – I wonder if she?  Yeeessssss, there are sunflower seeds too – Ooooo” – much excitement.

There is dancing in the upper branches.  Leaves are falling on me.  There is cursing at THEM.  But, yup, I continue to feed them.  Sure, I’m weird (and probably more than a little crazy) – we’ve covered that many times.  But you know, because I have mentioned it many times, this is one of the only things that gets me through Winter.  Not the tree rats!  For pities sake…the BIRDS!  Ugh  I have to endure the tree rats to get the birds, and so the cycle of the seasons continues.  I already told you I was “different”.  I prefer the term “special” 🙂  You can choose whether or not to read further.  It’s gonna be one of those today.  Game on.

Yes, they are back.  Not that they ever really left, but I didn’t see them much in the warmer months.  (I’m talking about the tree rats, or squirrels, for those who are nicer than me.  Stay with the programme here – you have to be quick.) Partially because I’m much too busy gardening – and unless they are messing with that, then I tend to ignore.  They do tend to like the bird baths, but I will accommodate that – yes, I can do that.

Kittens and flowers, kittens and flowers

Excuse me while I pick the leaves out of my hair.

But the birds are also back.  I so enjoy them.  The meadow is brown, the garden is brown, the leaves are brown, the trees are brown, but the birds, the birds are colourful.  Flashes of red Cardinals and blue Blue Jays. The black, white and red of the Woodpeckers.  The little Chickadees – always so cheerful, and the Juncos, to name but a few.  My saving grace.  Happy dance.

I was having a conversation with an acquaintance from California (JEALOUS) and this person couldn’t understand the fact that, yes, I am Canadian, and no, I don’t do Winter well.  “What do you mean, you don’t ski?”  Um, no – broken limbs are not my thing.  The thought of strapping slats to my feet and hurling myself off a a mountain in the freezing cold do not appeal to me.  You?

But I digress,

So I’ve got my new glasses, very spiffy, I must say, and they’re great for reading my phone – which I do far too often, but they’re CRAP for working on the computer.  Sigh.  Still winking here… This means contacting the stupid eye doctor again.

So much fun, I just can’t stand it!  Game on.

Great day for writing Debra, you’re in a real mood.  Bit of a spit fire today and all over the place.  Ah, yes, the Sun moved into Sagittarius.  Of course.  First, I’m going to do this, but wait, I need to do this, and then I’m going to do that, but back to this for a moment, and oh yah, wasn’t this thing going to happen?  Are you getting the Sagittarius thing?  Fun, but sometimes not focused.  You know who you are.  Game on.

The Moon?  She is moving from earthy, Capricorn – following the rules, dotting i’s and crossing t’s into the wind of Aquarius, an air sign, this evening.  Breaking those rules.

Dust in the Wind

Here you go:

I close my eyes, only for a moment
And the moment’s gone
All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind
Same old song, just a drop of water
In an endless sea
All we do crumbles to the ground
Though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
Oh, ho, ho (musical interlude)
Now, don’t hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, and all your money won’t another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind [x2]
Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind [x2]
The wind
You’re welcome.

One of my favourite songs by Kansas.  Remember that one, women of a certain age?  Late 70’s.  I know you’re singing.  Oh, yes, I can see those smiles.  What were you doing back then when that song was playing?  Hmmm? Never mind, this is a family show.  Oops, not giving away any secrets here.  Moving on.

Oh boy, we’re not going back to Scorpio and Swimming with Joe – I’m exhausted! 🙂  Enough with the swimming.  FOCUS!  Sigh – Sagittarius.  Game on.

Thinking about how the Sun is in Sagittarius and Ophiuchus end of next week, Ophiuchus?  Read – towards the bottom.  I’ll wait.  Got it? Ok.  It suddenly dawns on me how the whole Christmas, making things merry and bright, rush happens DURING the Sagittarius Sun…ooohhhh, ok, now I get it…Dashing around, so many things to do – first, I’m going to do this, but wait, I need to do this, and then I’m going to do that, but back to this for a moment, and oh yah, wasn’t this thing going to happen? Then with the parties…Sagittarius is all about parties and fun.  Sagittarius is a fire sign.  Right?  Are you getting that?

So Sagittarius!

A better understanding.  That’s the build-up.  Then, the actual big day, December 25th, which happens to fall in Capricorn.  All about tradition and expectations and the order of doing things…we must have a turkey dinner, and there must be a tree with presents for EVERYBODY underneath with the stockings hung.  Then, of course there’s the dinner, where you have to invite certain people, obligations, and then the let-down, because, of course, your expectations of order were so very high.  Hello women.  Hello Capricorn.  Game on.

Yupper, it all makes perfect sense now…

Settle down Debra and pour yourself some more tea.  What’s in my cup?  Not wine. (Not this time)  Pine needles and rose hips, first.  Vitamin C.  Then a cup of Yarrow flowers and Elderberry flowers with Mint, because, of course, I have the annual November cold (and there’s the plant reference, just in case you were wondering about today’s rant).

Every. Single. Year.

It’s nice that it comes and goes before the full throttle of all things Christmas, but it’s still a pain because it’s a week of sort of down time, when I still have lots to do.  I know, I know, take a page from my own book of advice.  My body is telling me that I need some rest.  What with the crap show that has been ongoing for me.

But we’re not going back there today.  Nope.  Not doing it.

We are revelling in a day at home, getting things caught up on the computer and sharing this all-over-the-place day with you, dear readers.  Even though the stuffy nose and tickley cough are a real nuisance.  Coming to you liiivvve from my fuzzy head.  Not lookin’ too pretty here, so glad this is only in print. 🙂  I’ll leave the visual to your imagination.  Suffice it to say, it involves tissues, tea and woollen things.  Probably still leaves in my hair.  Yup.  Game on.

Today’s colour is crimson.  Like my nose.  Ew.

What’s with the “Game on”?  Well, it’s American Thanksgiving today!  Have a happy one my dear American readers – yes, there are American readers.  Remember, I keep track.  If you’re the Mom, making the meal, I hope you get to enjoy too.  Please, have some wine – you’ve earned it.  If you’re not the Mom making the meal, get off the couch and help!  Speaking as the Mom who always makes the meal here…

On that note, I’ll leave you for today.  Time for some more tea for me.  Next rant, my cold will be done and the visual should be better for you. 🙂

Until next time,

It’s Pluto’s Fault

Hey there,

Breaking news – Pluto has gone direct.  Have you had enough?  Keep reading my friend.

Breathing a sigh of relief as the cool Fall weather descends upon us.  I know, I know, many love the hot Sun and all things Summer – but I’m an Autumn gal.  For the past two weeks here in Southern Ontario we have experienced extreme heat for this time of year.  I was melllltinggggg.  No energy and cranky – I don’t sleep well.  I can’t stand it when my moisturizer slides off my skin.  And my hair…well, don’t get me started.

Would you like some cheese with that whine?  Enough said.

Okey doke – here comes some woo woo.  Anyone new here?  First, read up on woo woo at the link, then, come on back and…buckle up!

We’ve got Pluto going full speed ahead, direct, today after six months of him being in retrograde.

Pluto – and I dare the science nerds to say that Pluto is not a planet here – is God of the Underworld.

Scary?  You bet.

It represents not only death, but rebirth, meaning that when the world is under his influence, experiences die and are re-born again, over and over.  Could be bad stuff, could be good stuff.  It’s a rollercoaster.

Pluto takes a very long time to travel around the Sun – like almost 250 years.  Uh huh.  Remember when you took the Solar System in Science when you were in school?  Remember making the paper mache and the styrofoam planets that you had to drag to school for your project.  I know, if you’re of “a certain age”, you definitely know what I’m talking about here. 🙂  This was before the science nerds decided that Pluto wasn’t a “real” planet.  Seriously?  After hauling all that through the rain to school?  Anyhoo, Pluto was the wee little planet that was last, the farthest from the Sun.  Ok, even if you’re not into Astrology or Astronomy, you know that.

So back to Pluto taking almost 250 years to make his sorry self completely once around the Sun – this means that he remains in each sign of the Zodiac for many years at a time.  Make sense?

Think of it this way:  The Earth takes one year to travel around the Sun.  Right?  One year has 12 months and each month, approximately, represents one of the 12 Zodiac signs.  That’s where the Zodiac Sun signs come from.  They are the Constellations, or the Pathway of Animals, that stay on the elliptical that the planets travel around the Sun on.  So when a planet is “in” a sign?  That means that the planet (or Moon) is traveling in front of that particular Constellation.  Ah ha moment.  That’s a very simple description – without going all sky nerd, because I’m really all about the simple.

If you study the night sky, as I love to do, you get a feeling of how the Earth and planets travel.  For example, the Moon (which travels around the Earth, once per month) moves from East to West.  As she goes through her phases and inches across the sky each night in front of each Zodiac sign (approximately 2.5 days per month in each sign) it seems like the Zodiac signs are traveling across the sky at different times of the year. The Zodiac signs don’t move – we do!  It’s pretty cool.

Stay with me here.  Because Pluto takes so long to make a complete circuit, he sits in each sign for years.   Got it?

Now, each Zodiac sign represents different temperaments, emotions and energies.  Like when I say the Moon is in a certain sign, things feel or go a certain way.

Currently, Pluto is in Capricorn. Capricorn is the backbone of hard work and let’s get it done properly.  No nonsense, follow the rules.  Dotting i’s and crossing t’s.

He entered Capricorn in 2008 and will remain there until around 2023.  Yup.  He doesn’t stay in each sign for the same amount of time.  It gets complicated with retrogrades and so forth and we won’t get into that.

Now, let’s think here…2008…does anyone remember what kind of a year that was for the financial world? Hmmmm?  The ups and the downs since then and the way the world has seemed to be on a course to who knows where? Death and re-birth.  Over and over.  Bingo.

Any good news?  Well, Capricorn is a grounded Earth sign.  Slow and steady wins the race.  Probably the best of the signs to handle Pluto.  So, that’s good.

How does Pluto affect people?  Well the death and re-birth – that can mean lots of things – feelings, emotions, being “stuck” in places, careers, relationships – can’t take it anymore stuff.  If you’ve been feeling that way especially in the past six months or so, Pluto was in retrograde, or seeming to go backwards…so not only was Pluto being Pluto, he was doing it backwards.  Yup. Changes, drumming up the past, bad memories – sh!t happens kind of stuff.  People changing directions, careers, places they live, doing things for themselves – living off the grid, homeschooling, not following the “rules” (Pluto) and maybe being judged for it by society (Capricorn).  Power struggles and control.  We won’t get into what’s going on with our good friends south of the border.

Pluto will take you down as low as you can go, snuff out that light at the end of the tunnel, and just when you think it can’t get worse – BAM! – re-birth.

Lightbulbs are going off – I can feel it.  And heads are nodding.

Now that Pluto is going forward again, things should get a little better – we’re still dealing with Pluto, but it could be taking back control of something that has gone astray in your life – and that could be the Capricorn influence of hard work.  The death and re-birth.  Or it could mean that something (or someone – yikes!) gets tossed, because you’ve just had enough.  There is struggle.  There has been struggle since 2008, hasn’t there?  We are over half-way through in Capricorn – the quiet builder.

Plants that correspond with Pluto?  Black Cohosh, Black Alder, Dragon’s Blood…are you getting it?  We could also think about bulbs that grow, die back and grow again.

Aren’t you glad you tuned in today?  Aren’t I the Good News Fairy?  I hope that I’ve maybe made you think about some influences that could answer questions.  Again with the head nodding.  I find it always helps to know why things might be happening.  You might not be able to stop it, but an understanding makes it easier.  That’s my thought.  Be Prepared.  Always the good Girl Guide that I am.

The Moon tonight is in Sagittarius – fun! She’s just entered the second quarter, so showing the half-Moon.

Today’s colour is turquoise.

Lots to ponder – I’ll leave you to it.

Until next time,
